As statistics show in 2017 eBay has 168m of active buyers, for comparison, Amazon has 300m. Typically, these platforms, or popular marketplace in Poland - Allegro are places when store owners start their journey in e-commerce. But this is not 100% right action.
We will try to explain you why it's important to not to abandon this practice. Despite the increase in the initial phase, it is also an effective way to increase sales while the popularity of the store increases. Furthermore, it's great place to expand your sales to foreign markets.
As we mentioned above, marketplace portals have a huge amount of traffic. You can't walk away without action. Imagine that only 1% of the Amazon/eBay traffic can be your traffic. Great, isn't it?
It is also worth to remember that majority of the customers start searching from Amazon, then in search engines.
Marketplaces can be a great place to find your new customers. If somebody reaches you on Amazon.com or eBay.com you will have his/her contact information. With them you are able to share information about your offers, promotions or bestsellers.
Remember one crucial fact. When somebody finds you on marketplace, it doesn't mean that they were looking for you. In the most cases they were looking for product, which you have in your offer. Finally, when they find you, do not spoil it, just try to build a bond that you will cherish every day.
People are lazy. Especially in the 21st century, when everything they can get via one click. they won't look for your store. They will enter few keywords to the searchbox and that's all. That is the reason why they prefer marketplace rather than online stores.

You need to know that 404 Not Found error is a lose-lose situation for you. You must realize that this is not a comfortable situation for your customers. Each store owner is a winner! To be honest, there are many different ways that you might see that error. Certainly in recognition of this error, does not help the fact that each store can have customized error page. The HTTP 404 Error means that the webpage you were trying to reach could not be found on the server. It's a client-side error, which means that the page has been removed or moved and the URL is wrong. If I can simplify this definition, I should say that HTTP 404 Page Not Found error means that the webpage does not exist with the entered URL.
There are several ways that can help us with the problem solving.
It's the first thing you should do when you are making troubleshotting. You can press Ctrl + F5 to force a refresh on the page. The error may appear just because the page wouldn't load (sometimes saving in admin panel is longer than loading on fronend store).
If you are able to visit the page from another device or browser, you should clear cache and cookies, it will usually solve the problem.
Make sure that URL which you entered is correct. Check the spelling of the URL, correct slashes, page extensions.
If you are a store owner and you are pretty sure that enter URL is correct, you can check the system name of page which you want to visit. Maybe you made mistake when you were creating this page. Remember to check also SEO tab, maybe in Search Engine Friendly Name is misspelling.
If you are sure that everything should be fine, contact the webmaster. Maybe they don't know about this error. If you are a store owner, you should contact the hosting provider for more information, because if the server is encountering problems, it may return 404 errors.

The most important thing is to check what you actually have. You can't offer products which are out of stock. If your store is mature, you can check last year statistic and look for what your customers bought. It will help you to predict what may be hot this year.
- Stay up to date with inventory changes
Set up a notifications about low stock. If you will have control on your stock you will be able to supplement the product deficiencies easily. In nopCommerce you are able to do that in two ways:
- Hide products, which are not available
Hide products, which you don't have on stock. You will save the time of your customers and avoid misleading them so they can focus only on the products that are available.
In nopCommerce you can simple uncheck "Published" checkbox.
- Show the number of available products
It will be really helpful for your customers if they will see how many products you have on stock. It can motivate them to buy faster. As nopCommerce user you can configure it in on product page:
- Always try to predict
Try to get shipping time frames from your shipping providers. If you get it, you will be sure that the shipment will arrive on time. And when we have a holiday fever, it is really important for customers.
- Show dates of the order fulfillment
Inform customers about shipping. They want information about it. When you have a week for holiday and you are looking for a gift, you are looking at dates to be sure that it will arrive on time.
Look at our delivery calendar widget. It can be helpful in your store.
- Always offer a few shipping methods
Do not limit the possibilities for customers. Everyone has different preferences. If you have only one shipping method, you may look like a suspect.
- Offer free returns
Free returns will increase trust in your customers. Many of them are still afraid of shopping in the internet. Do not reject them. Offer a free refund if the product does not meet their expectations.
- Think about gift wrapping
Suggest (free or for a small fee) a packet of gifts to save your customers' time.

- Change your design
Add christmas tree or santa hat to your logo. Create christmas banners. It can be a great addition for your store. You can change your logo in Configuration -> Settings -> Global Settings -> 'Logo' section
- Optimize your store
Do not shell the customer with hundreds of information. Show him what he would like to see. Modify your banners and sliders in such a way as to focus the attention of visitors to special promotions, ideas for gifts or best-selling products.
- Increase customer trust
In different places on the site, add elements that increase customer trust (delivery times, payment security, free returns, certificates etc.) to encourage them to shop. You can do it easily with topics. You can find them in Admin Panel -> Content Management -> Topics. Without problems you are able to insert custom topic to your site.

- Implement ticket system
Each customer can have questions, how you can help them? You can create community board or create a platform where they can ask question and immediately get answer. How you can do it. You have just simple form on contact us page?
Use our Tickets System plugin. Create department to have tickets in order, change the tickets priority. You can also create your own customized contact form.
- Be online
Your customer service need to be possitive as positive is your store. Make sure all members of your staff respond quickly and kindly to phone inquiries and e-mails. You can also ask them to wish customers "Merry Christmas!".
- Avoid disputes
Avoid any conflicts with your customers by ensuring your website complies with the laws in force in your country.
- Modify SEO
Christmas is special time. People can search products with different keywords than in normal time. Try to predict and add them to your store before your competitors. Xamarin Mobile App – Why it’s worth to move the store to mobile?
Let’s start with basic information about Xamarin. It’s a tool widely used for developing cross-platform apps. Using C# and .NET it allows to build fully functional native mobile app, which shares the same code across all major mobile platforms.
Pros of Xamarin cross-platform nopCommerce app:
A main disadvantage of Xamarin was price, but this recently changed when Microsoft purchased Xamarin. Now it’s available in all new versions of Visual Studio, including the free Community Edition, that’s available to individual developers and small organizations.
C# can be used to code all platforms. What does it mean for you? Basically, if you are a developer and you are familiar with nopCommerce, without any doubts and problems after source code purchase you won’t have any problems with coding and customization your app.
Since Xamarin uses native UI components you are able to create a native look and feel for each platform.
Full support for hardware features like camera, GPS, etc. Instead of web apps, Xamarin cross-platform apps can use each mobile features.

Who uses Xamarin?

Basically, it's not a bug. It's problem related with Gmail security requirements. If you want to use Gmail account as your e-mail account in nopCommerce you need to enable 3rd party softwares support in your Gmail. Please look at the steps below how to successfully configure Gmail email account in nopCommerce.
1. Log in to your Gmail.
2. Please enter https://accounts.google.com/DisplayUnlockCaptcha and allow access.
3. Please enter https://www.google.com/settings/security/lesssecureapps and allow access.
4. Login to your nopCommerce, then go to Configuration -> E-Mail Accounts and Add new or Edit existing account.
5. Now use below listed settings:
Email address: Your email
Email display name: your website name
Password: Password. (NOTE: If you are editing existing account, don't forget to click "Change password" button.)
Use default credentials: Unchecked.
6. Save changes.
7. That's all. You can send test e-mail, but everything will work.
